TOOL, PEARL JAM To Top Next Week's BILLBOARD Album Chart
May 4, 2006Hits Daily Double is reporting that TOOL's "10,000 Days" looks poised to sell in the 600,000 range after a tremendous first-day start, according to retailers around the country. This is roughly in line with the first-week performance of the band's last album, "Lateralus", which shifted 555,000 copies back in May 2001 to debut at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. Meanwhile, PEARL JAM's self-titled effort — the group's first album for Clive Davis' J Records — marks a real comeback for Eddie Vedder and company, with a projected total of 300,000, give or take a few, helped by #1 sales at iTunes and fan sites as well as a spate of media coverage. It's the band's first new studio album since 2002's "Riot Act" for Epic. Other notable chart debuts: Interscope's Aussie BLACK SABBATH-like neo-heavy metal outfit WOLFMOTHER, fresh off their acclaimed Coachella performance (35,000),and Fontana's indie REBEL MEETS REBEL on Big Vin Records, recorded by the late PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell with brother Vinnie Paul and country outlaw David Allen Coe (30,000).
